Some food for thought from men who lived in the reality of being in Christ.
--“Jesus Christ does not want to be our helper; He wants to be our life. He does not want us to work for Him. He wants us to let Him do His work through us, using us as we use a pencil to write with—better still, using us as one of the fingers on His hand.” -Charles Trumbull
--“In saving our lives, we not only lose them, but we lose other people’s too.” –Leonard Ravenhill
--“Oh, if we could be wise enough to choose, even were as wise as the Lord Himself, we would choose the troubles which He has appointed to us, and we would not spare ourselves a single pang.” –Charles Spurgeon
--“Faith in all its sheer simplicity! Faith that takes God precisely at His Word! Faith that that simply says, 'Thank You.'” -Ian Thomas
--“If there is any situation from which you are not prepared to step back, in recognition of the total adequacy of Christ who is in you, then you are out of the will of God. You are asserting by your action and by your attitude that He has nothing to give you for that situation, which you do not have in yourself." -Ian Thomas
--"Jesus ever, Jesus only, Jesus always." -Oswald Chambers.
Some books I've read recently that have challenged, encouraged, and inspired me:
--Abide In Christ by Andrew Murray
If we don't abide in Jesus, we can do nothing. We can't have any true fruit, which means we cannot glorify God (John 15:8). But what does it mean to abide in Christ? Andrew Murray explains in a simple way what true abiding is...receiving life from Jesus at every moment, trusting Him to keep us from stumbling, and resting in His power.
--The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson
The story of the man who exchanged his two hours of TV watching every night for two hours of prayer, the unusual beginning of his burden for gangs in New York, and the ministry called Teen Challenge that God developed to reach thousands.
Some messages to be sharpened by...
--"The Anatomy of Faith" by Eric Ludy
Without faith it is impossible to please God... but what exactly is faith? How can we call ourselves "believers" when we don't believe? This message may affect the way you read the Bible, pray, and think about God. Here's a quote: "Faith is an exclusive covenant relationship of the eyesight of your soul with Jesus."
--"Reckoning With Truth" by Eric Ludy
According to Romans 6, we who are in Christ are dead to sin... it's a fact just as much as the fact that Jesus lived, died, and rose again. Sin no longer has power over us, and although we don't always, we can walk in victory over pride, fear, doubt, lust, greed, laziness, and every other sin. Unfortunately, most of us don't believe this is actually part of being a normal Christian... and therefore we don't walk in freedom. Experience seems to contradict this... but when did we let experience become a god? We must learn to reckon this truth... to walk in it just as truly as we have walked in sin in the past.
